Bus

RIPTA Buses

RIPTA offers statewide bus and citywide trolley service into downtown Providence. Express bus lines serve all of Rhode Island, with Park n’ Ride service available in 27 communities.

Downtown Providence is served by 58 bus lines providing direct services into downtown from throughout the state (without requiring transfers). There are 3,000 daily trips with 1,600 during peak times.

RIPTA’s Eco Passes are also offered to employers to encourage transit use at a subsidized rate. For emergencies, employees get 2FREEtaxi rides home per year. Employers may pay the commuting cost or allow employees to use their own salary on a pre-tax basis to purchase transit services.

Regional Buses

Peter Pan bus line offers more than a dozen daily weekday trips from Boston to Providence and back, and seven daily trips to and from New York. Monthly passes are available.

Megabus offers 5 trips per day from Providence to New York, and 5 trips back. Service is now available from Providence to Hyannis on Cape Cod!

Greyhound

Trains

MBTA

MBTA commuter rail service offers 14 daily round trips between Boston and Providence, including convenient peak hour trains. MBTA service has also added trips south of Providence to T.F.Green Airport’s Interlink station and North Kingstown’s Wickford Junction during the morning and evening commutes.

Amtrak

Amtrak has several peak-period trains run every day, and monthly passes are available for commuters. The ride from Boston to Providence takes only 35 minutes on the Acela line and 50 minutes on the Northeast Regional line. Amtrak also offers convenient travel from Providence to New York Penn Station, taking under three hours on the Acela line, and just three and a half hours on the regional line.

Taxi Stands

Taxi stands can be found in key locations by the train station, in front of the Biltmore Hotel on Dorrance Street, and on the southeast corner of Dorrance and Fulton, by Kennedy Plaza. To call a cab in advance, find listings at Yellow Pages online.
