On Friday, September 21st, from 10 AM to 4 PM, spend a few hours exploring pop-up parklets downtown! Several on-street metered parking spaces will be temporarily coverted to green spaces for fun activity as part of PARK(ing) Day, an international event that started in San Francisco in 2005.
It’s a visible movement to put people, instead of cars, at the center of cities around the world. In Providence, volunteers have been planning this grassroots program each year since 2011 to engage people in thinking about the nature of urban and public space.
Held on Westminster and Eddy streets this year, PARK(ing) Day highlights downtown Providence’s uniquely compact, approachable scale. The parklets will be in place for only one day, so check them out before they’re gone. Follow @PARKingDayPVD on Twitter, and use #ParkingDayPVD and #ASLAPD18 to tag your photos!
