“It’s time to meet the waffle of your dreams.”
Waffles have arrived in Downtown Providence, and according to Matt and Tara Celeste from Waffle, they want to be your friends. We met up with Matt to taste their delicious waffles and find out more about Downtown’s newest restaurant.
A sourdough baking hobby led me to using the starter to make waffles. From there we stumbled into Liège waffles and felt like it was the perfect food to bring to the burgeoning Providence food scene.
A Liège waffle is the cousin of the Brussels waffle. Both are Belgian but in America we’re used to the Brussels. While Brussels is a batter based waffle, Liège waffles are a yeasted brioche dough base. There is pearl sugar in the dough and when the waffle is cooked the sugar melts and caramelizes on the outside. You’ve just got to try one!
We love getting as much locally as we can. We get things from Narragansett Creamery, Yacht Club Soda, Bats of Bedlam, Baffoni Farms, Wright’s Farm, and Backyard Food Company. We can’t wait for the weather to warm up so we can use some of the incredible local fruit that RI produces.
I (Matt) am born and raised in Cranston and Tara grew up in Smithfield. We both love our little city and seeing all the great things opening up all the time. There is so much in such a small area and we love being a part of it.
When we were throwing the idea of Waffle around we knew from the beginning there was no other place for it than downtown Providence. It’s just right. It’s the hub of our state and we can’t see ourselves anywhere else.
Waffles and friends are on the same plane. Actually, we suggest enjoying waffles with friends. The work part… well that’s definitely third.
All the waffles at Waffle Providence are made from scratch, using locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. Drizzled with chocolate, dusted with cinnamon or sprinkled with homemade caramel, each waffle is unique and incredibly delicious.
Stop in and welcome Waffle Providence to the neighborhood, and sample the neighborhood’s most recent sweet spot.
