NecronomiCon Providence: August 17-20

Participate in over 4 days of weird fiction, art, academia, and festivities right here in Providence, “the birthplace of weird!” From August 17-20, NecronomiCon Providence will explore and celebrate of all the greats of weird fiction including predecessors and contemporaries of Providence’s own H.P. Lovecraft.

Guests of honor include renowned editor Ellen Datlow, filmmaker Richard Stanley, artist John Jude Palencar, poet Donald Sidney-Fryer, Lovecraftscholar Steve Mariconda, and authors Kij Johnson, Stephen Graham Jones, Nnedi Okorafor, and Peter Straub.

Locals are invited to get tickets for core programming, including talks, panels, author readings, and more. Several related events are also open to the public, such as plays, concerts, film screenings, and walking tours.

On Wednesday, August 16th, Aurora is hosting a NecronomiCon welcome pre-party from 7 PM to midnight. Local authors will read weird fiction, special films will be screened, and attendees can share their own stories during an open mic.

On Thursday, August 17th, the opening ceremony at the First Baptist Church in America will be open to the public, from 5-6 PM. From 7 PM to midnight, special outdoor events are planned at the celebration of Weird Providence, concert, and party at the Facade Lot, 35 Weybosset Street. See the Big Nazo Intergalactic Band, local psycho-goth-punk band The ViennaGram, a Frank Difficult Presents music/video/mashup and other screenings. Great Northern BBQ will have a carnival fire pit roast, and Narragansett Beers will be available at the beer garden.
