Providence PARK(ing) Day: September 19th

Downtown parking day map 9.19On PARK(ing) Day, key locations will be transformed from metered parking spaces into temporary public parks, known as parklets. Friday, September 19th is the second official celebration in Providence, but PARK(ing) Day actually began in 2005 in San Francisco. By 2011, it expanded to include 975 parklets in 162 cities in 35 countries. Organized locally by the RI chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (RIASLA), the RI chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIAri), and Transport Providence, the event strengthens our connection with nature and our sense of community.

Parklet designers work with local businesses to find creative ways to add green space to the urban environment. Sign up to create your own, and check out the downtown parklets created by these designers:
