After a short winter break, Gallery Night is gearing up for its 17th season! On the third Thursday evening of each month from March through November, Gallery Night invites guests to experience Providence’s art scene up-close, either on their own or through guided tours. Several downtown galleries are participating: AIARi Windows on Architecture gallery, BankRI Turks Head gallery, Copacetic Jewelry, and the URI Feinstein Providence gallery, with Big Nazo Lab participating as an associate gallery. Within a short walking distance, you can also visit the RISD Museum of Art, the Galleries of the Providence Art Club, the John Brown House Museum, Imperial Gallery, and much more.
If you plan to take the shuttle, feel free to park at Regency Plaza and begin your tour at Gallery Night’s central art depot and information booth. Chef Wheeler Del Torro is making treats for you to take along, and Big Nazo puppets will make special appearances on a few buses throughout the night. This month, the celebrity guides are Mary Larsen, former Rhode Show host; Dolores Rovnach, arts patron; and Marilyn Salvatore, costume designer and adjunct professor of theater at URI and Salve Regina.
The free Contemporary Tour with Big Nazo creature guides starts at 5:40pm, taking guests across downtown to AIARi, BankRI, the Imperial Gallery @Jerry’s Artarama, and URI Gallery. You’ll appreciate art in a completely new way, guided by larger-than-life renegade puppet perfomers. You won’t forget it!
