The law firm of Edwards Wildman Palmer LLP has signed an 11-year lease with Meritage Properties for its space at One Financial Plaza. The firm has a total of 221 employees working in downtown Providence, including 92 legal professionals. Altogether, the firm has 650 attorneys in 14 offices across the U.S., the United Kingdom, and Asia.
Dan Baudouin, Executive Director of The Providence Foundation has said, “We are extremely pleased that the prestigious law firm of Edwards Wildman has renewed its commitment to downtown Providence, the city and the state. As a major employer and supporter of many local causes, the firm’s presence is deeply appreciated.”
Established in 1894 as Edwards & Angell in Providence, the firm moved to One Financial Plaza in May of 1974 as the building’s original tenant. In 2005, Edwards & Angell merged with Boston-based Palmer & Dodge, taking the name Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge. In October of 2011, the firm merged with Chicago-based Wildman, Harrold, Allen & Dixon, to become Edwards Wildman Palmer LLP.
“Beginning with our establishment as Edwards & Angell, Edwards Wildman has been a fixture in the Rhode Island legal community for more than 100 years,” said Christopher Graham, co- partner in charge of the Providence office and co-chair of the Business Law Department. “Even as we continue to grow and expand our geographical reach, this lease extension solidifies our commitment to serve our many clients in the Rhode Island legal market.”
“We have worked closely with Meritage Properties and are delighted to reach a mutually beneficial agreement,” added Renee Evangelista, the other co-partner in charge of the Providence office and a partner in the firm’s Private Client Department. “We look forward to continuing our relationship for the foreseeable future.”
