Last minute holiday shopping in Downcity

It’s the last weekend before Christmas. Time is running out to check everyone off your list. Do you still have a few things left to buy? Maybe you haven’t started yet? If you’re in either camp, you can finish up all your shopping right in downtown Providence.

Not sure where to start? Westminster Street is a great spot! Shop from end to end and you’ll be sure to find something for everyone.

The Arcade
Start your day on the east end of Westminster. Built in 1828, the Arcade is the nation’s oldest indoor shopping mall, so that should get you inspired to shop. A beautiful structure with microlofts upstairs, shops and retail are on the ground floor. The shops in the Arcade are small, but intimate and focused. It’s a unique shopping experience in a historic setting. Local tip: pop into New Harvest Coffee for a caffeine fix to keep you going.

Westminster Street
Walk west on Westminster Street into the heart of InDowncity, these independently owned shops are set in a cozy, neighborhood vibe. Whether you’re looking for something handmade, vintage, or the perfect bottle of wine, Westminster Street has something for everyone. Local tip: this is a good block to be on when you need that lunch break.

Gift an Experience
There is always someone on that list who is impossible to shop for. Has everything….doesn’t want any more “stuff”. Instead of buying something, give that person an even more valuable gift, time. Give them a dinner invitation and spend time together, encourage a staycation with a hotel gift certificate, or pick up theater tickets from PPAC or Trinity for a night out. Local tip: Check out the Brown/Trinity Rep MFA program for an intimate theater experience that is easy on the wallet.
