Providence Public Library’s Exhibition and Program Series continues with their new exhibit, HairBrained, opening on February 28.
According to the PPL, “The HairBrained exhibition will focus on hairstyles throughout history – braids, curls, facial hair, wigs – and the ways in which hair defines and reflects culture, self-identity, agency, and politics.” On display will be a selection of books, prints, magazines and photos from the library’s extensive Special Collections.
The exhibition kicks off with an opening party on Wednesday, February 28 from 6 – 8pm and is free and open to all. In the spirit of the exhibition, partygoers are encouraged to get creative with your hair. Wigs, fancy mustaches, wild beehives, the more creative the better for this fun occasion. The party will feature site-specific performances developed for this exhibition, including one by PPL’s Creative Fellow Becci David, and poet/performers Orlando Hernández and Sussy Santana.
