Once again, the city has announced its free holiday parking program starting the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, November 24th through New Year’s Day, Monday, January 1st. Betweeen 10 AM and 9 PM, Monday through Saturday, shoppers may park at specified metered spaces in Downtown Providence for up to 2 hours for free! Metered parking is always free on Sundays. Note that in other commercial districts, such as Atwells Avenue, Broad Street, Hope Street, Thayer Street, and South Main Street, meters are only enforced until 6 PM.
As part of Mayor Elorza’s #thinkpvd campaign, the program aims to make it easier for customers to support local businesses during prime shopping hours. However, parking limits will be strictly enforced, and customers must pay (by coin, credit card, or app) between 8 and 10 AM. Cars parked illegally in prohibited areas will also be ticketed.
Within Downtown Providence, the specified area is bounded by Fountain Street, Memorial Boulevard, Weybosset Street, Empire Street, and Friendship Street (between Dyer Street and Dorrance). Download the map to see the specific streets, and please note that Exchange Terrace is NOT included in the holiday program. Find more details at providenceri.gov, and look for the stickers on designated meters!
