On Thursday, May 11th, the Downtown Providence Parks Conservancy (DPPC) broke ground on Brandon’s Beach, a playground that will transform Burnside Park into a destination play space for families. Inspired by the area’s maritime history, the playground is designed by Kompan Play Equipment for children of all ages and abilities. It will be sensory rich, with swings, spinners, and musical equipment, and will mesh with the park’s historic setting. Construction is expected to be complete by late summer 2017.
Named in memory of Brandon Goldner, the playground has been generously funded by his friends and family, including parents Barbara and Brian Goldner, CEO of Hasbro. A separate grant from the Hasbro Children’s Fund will also allow the DPPC to enhance its Imagination Center, which was installed in the park in 2013. Together, these investments will help to define Greater Kennedy Plaza as a welcoming, vibrant city center. Read more about the plans for the playground in The Providence Journal.
