We welcome members of the Handweavers Guild of America, in town through July 19th for the Convergence conference! Fiber enthusiasts from around the world have come together—in this area rich in textile history and innovation—for exhibits, classes, tours, and shopping. Please enjoy the URI Feinstein Providence Campus Arts & Culture Program’s three fabric exhibits in celebration of the conference, on display through August 8th. URI is hosting a Gallery Night reception on Thursday, July 17th from 5-9 PM to showcase:
- The American Tapestry Alliance’s “Untitled/Unjuried: Small Format Tapestry 2014,” curated by Jan Austin, featuring nearly 250 small tapestries from around the world.
- TWiNE 2014 (Tapestry Weavers in New England), a juried exhibit including the work of 18 New England Fiber Artist members.
- “Weaving Providence Together” curated by Jan Doyle, David Lima and Richard Muto, featuring demonstrations of weaving, spinning, and fiber preparation.
While exploring downtown, we also encourage everyone to check out the new Providence Art Windows embroidery and fiber-related installations by by Samantha Fields, Corey Grayhorse, Ricki Katowicz and William Schaff.
