The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) will temporarily close Exit 22 (Downtown Providence/Routes 6 & 10) from I-95 South, starting at 1 AM on Saturday, March 8th. (UPDATE: THIS EXIT REOPENED AT 4 PM ON SUNDAY, MARCH 9th).

Look for digital message boards along I-95 announcing the closure, and follow the signed detours. For Providence Place and downtown destinations, traffic will be sent to Exit 21, Atwells Ave.

As part of the Providence Viaduct Bridge Replacement Project, RIDOT will pour two sections of concrete bridge deck: widening Exit 22 before it splits into the three existing ramps (Exit 22A, Exit 22B, and Exit 22C), and widening the Exit 22B (Routes 6/10) ramp. To allow the concrete to properly cure, the entire exit must be closed.
