Join Mayor Angel Taveras at the Providence Rink on Saturday night from 6-7pm to kick off the holiday season! The mayor will emcee the annual tree lighting ceremony along with NBC10’s morning anchor, Barbara Morse Silva. Tony, the Dancing Cop, will also welcome guests to the corner of Washington and Dorrance streets, starting at 5:30pm. Enjoy additional performances by RPM Voices, the Brown University Skating Band and the Sackett Street School Choir, and watch a figure skating demonstration by regional award winners before joining Santa on the ice!
From noon to 6 PM, visual artist Nina Bovasso will build a giant 8-foot holiday ornament, using recycled cardboard, foam core, craft paper and tape. Everyone’s invited to participate! The completed giant holiday ball will be part of the tree lighting ceremony and will remain on view throughout the night. Thank you to the Partnership for Providence Parks, Downtown Providence Parks Conservancy and Providence Department of Parks & Recreation for making this happen!
