Each Thursday in October, watch live recordings of Action Speaks, a series of contemporary topic-driven panel discussions centered around “Underappreciated Dates that Changed America.” Hosted by Marc Levitt, the panels are recorded, edited and broadcast throughout the country. This year’s theme is Utopian/Dystopian, looking at 20th century moments when “America’s greatest hopes and despair have been represented in our country’s collective imagination and construction.”
Doors open at 5:30, and discussions start at 6:00 PM at AS220, 115 Empire Street. The schedule is as follows:
October 3: BETTING ON HEDONISM, 1941 (Las Vegas ‘Strip’ is born when El Rancho Vegas opens)
October 10: PARADISE FOUND (AND LOST?), 1957 (Frommer’s ‘Europe on $5 A Day’ is published)
October 17: HEAVEN FOR ALL, 1906 (The Seymour’s Azusa Street Revival and the birth of Pentecostalism)
October 24: STRETCHING TO BLISS, 1924 ( The birth of Yoga in America and The Great Oom’s Nyack, NY Retreat)
