Burnside Park Music Series & other after work events

When your work day ends, there’s no need to hop on your bike or drive home. Stick around! There are fantastic events happening downtown all summer long, every night of the week. Here’s what we recommend:

Mondays: Yappy Hour at Aspire! From 6-8:30 PM, bring your dog on a leash to the courtyard next to the Hotel Providence. Grab a few drinks or some bites, and meet other pet owners and helpful vendors. Your dog will thank you for it!

Tuesdays: Love to draw? For $6, you can bring your supplies to AS220 and sketch from a live model, 6-8:30 PM. End your night down the street at the Strictly Jazz Jam at the Roots Cultural Center. Feel free to bring your own instruments and join in from 7-10 PM!

Wednesdays: Be a spectator! See the competition up close at a Providence Downcity Bocce League game, held in Grant’s Block at 5:30 and 6:30 PM. (The league is so popular, games are held on Tuesday and Thursday nights too).

Thursdays: Choose wisely. You have plenty of great options! Greater Kennedy Plaza is the place to be seen during the Burnside Park Music Series. It starts at 4:30 and runs til 7, with music playing from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. Sneak out of work early, stake your claim to a table, and buy your friends a beer! Pay attention to the schedule (pictured here). Where else can you hear bands from Providence, New York, and Mali?

On Thursdays, you can admire a view of the park from above during Thursdays on the Terrace. From 5-8 PM, relax on the 3rd floor terrace at the Biltmore Hotel, with complimentary hors d’oeuvres, live jazz, and a cash bar.

Still not ready to go home? The RISD Museum is open until 9 PM on Thursday nights, and it’s free on the 3rd Thursday of each month during Gallery Night. And the fun continues after sunset at the outdoor Movies on the Block, presenting classics like Jaws, Best in Show, and The Godfather Part 2.

Fridays: Kick off the weekend at the Friday Night Concert Series at Waterplace Park at 7:30 PM, through July 20th. Bands include The White Rabbits, Grouplove, Walk the Moon, and Rice Cakes. You can also end your week right where you started, listening to live jazz under the stars in the courtyard at Aspire from 7-11 PM.

Beyond the regular weekly gatherings, downtown has plenty of special events that you won’t want to miss. Check our events calendar often to stay in the loop!
