Peak the Plaza

On Saturday, February 25th, join 700 people in Rhode Islands’s largest stair climb race, Peak the Plaza, at One Financial Plaza. Beginning at 9am, every 20 seconds, participants will take to the stairs and race to the top of the building. Although it might sound intimidating, this vertical challenge is a fun way to test your lung power, stamina and personal strength. Almost 200 firefighters are expected to take part in the firefighter challenge where they race in full gear wearing oxygen tanks, heavy coats, pants and boots. That makes running up 28 flights in your sweatpants seem like a piece of cake!

People often climb in honor or in memory of someone with lung disease, and work teams enjoy competing to build camaraderie. Whatever your motivation, reaching the top is a huge accomplishment and something to be proud of!

The race is for ages 13+ and all athletic abilities are welcome. When you sign up, you’ll be required to pay a $35 registration fee, and you must agree to meet a $100 fundraising minimum to support the American Lung Association’s programs of research, education and advocacy efforts.

After the climb, McFadden’s Restaurant & Saloon is hosting an after-party that will include racing awards for the fastest teams in various categories and individuals based on age and gender. Sponsors of the 2012 Peak the Plaza Climb are Amica, WBRU, GTech, LGC&D, Metlife and Northeast Recycle.
